There's only a few days left before I board a plane to Iceland.  I can only think about the years that have gone by with this moment being only a thought in my mind. I think back to that crucial moment that I have never forgotten- Staring at a TV screen in the late hours of the night at an image of a giant stuffed teddy bear trolling through the woods while being tracked by a hunter who it later kills.  And there it was, I was entranced by my first exposure to Björk. An artist that brought a sound that I had never heard before . Her voice is as mesmerizing as the construction of her songs and the images in her videos. This was my first exposure to Iceland during a pivotal time in music. It also began a growing need to visit the country that continues to bring forth such amazing talent to the music industry.

So here's my contribution to Iceland a country that has a monumental influence in my expanding growth of musical culture.  I present you with a mix that draws upon the sounds of independent artists that inspire me the same way Björk did so many years ago.  It leans a bit more to the likes of Bondax, but this duo from across the pond forces you to do one thing...listen. ENJOY!

Lately I have been thinking a lot about classics...or just what the word vintage is. I think it's due to my latest obsession, which happens to be working on my bike. I think a lot about what I want it to look like and it was fun finally getting it back on the road. She's not 100%, but she's close. So here is a new set that I've posted on Mixcloud. I wanted to go back to some old tracks that were staples back in the day...Sure the late 90's may not be back in the day, but it does seem like long ago. So, here's to you 98.1FM and Baby D! Classic tracks that I still love today (mixed in with a bit of today, of course).  ENJOY!

numark v7

GET 'ER DONE/behringer ddm 4000

 Suffering from a bit of a creative block I decided to post these pics. For about a week I didn't play, my old mixer went out and then at the same time my headphones went out as well... I had been talking about getting a new mixer and some new headphones and what better time is there to splurge a little when you have a valid reason to do so. May I present, the Behringer DDM 4000 and the Hercules HDP DJ-ADV G501(...that's one hell of a long name, it couldn't be called the 501's? )...and in my normal fashion, I prefer not to bore you with the details of everything this mixer can do, and sure I may be going against the grain as to not have purchased one of the many DJM series by Pioneer, but I like this mixer!  So, now I'm back...immersing myself in sound and still trying to get used to my new equipment. Stay tuned as I will be posting a set on SoundCloud.  In conclusion, this mixer gets the job done and if I want to shell out the amount of money it would take me to fly round trip to Europe (plus a hotel) on a mixer it won't be for a Pioneer...I'll buy a RANE!

It's late morning...Do you know where you're children are at? As if anyone has to worry about me, everyone usually knows where I am. I'm passing the time playing some tunes! These pictures were taken while I was going through songs for a track list to a demo that I was putting together. So, here I am on the V7's...stay tuned and I'll post a set on SoundCloud to download.

The V7 delivers outstanding feel and unprecedented power in a single-platter digital DJ controller....blah, blah, blah. I'm not trying to write some review about these decks or sell you on just how awesome they are...We could debate the traditional vinyl turntable vs digital formats all day long and never come to a consensus. It's not about who's right or who's wrong or which format is better. Truth be told, I think it's more personal preference than anything. I've played on 12's, I've used Final Scratch, Serato SL1, DNS1000's, NDX800's...and which have been my favorite? ...These Numark V7's have blown me away! They are not traditional turntables and they are not complete CD turntables, they are something in between. They give you more control over the music like 12's, but with a seven-inch, motorized, high-torque aluminum turntable platter.....and I'm sure I could bore you with the details, but there has not been one moment when I have regretted my purchase. I remember when I got them, I was like a little kid on Christmas and sure, the packaging of a box within a box was overkill when you want to get to them quick, but since the day I unpacked them I haven't looked back. I am always proud to say I don't get distracted with shiny things, but when these light up my eyes become glossy and I am transported to another place where the reality of this world melts away as I add my own soundtrack. Sure, it's not fashion, but you do look good with these in front of you.

This post is more of a confession... I have been leading a double life, and I guess it was only a matter of time before the details of my life would be exposed. Thanks to Amanda, my alias was revealed to the world, and yes it's true... I am QualifiD MTRL. I have spent the past week coming up with my set for a gig at The Rackhouse Pub in Denver with my friend, Mikey Abell (AKA FunkFlux).
